Springfield man indicted, accused of attempted murder in shooting

A Clark County grand jury has indicted a Springfield man on an attempted murder charge in connection with a 2016 shooting on Race Street.

Dantez Craigmiles, 33, also was indicted Monday on a charge of aggravated burglary. He will be arraigned in Clark County Common Pleas Court later this week.

About 11:50 p.m. Nov. 1, 2016, Springfield officers and medics were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of South Race Street on a report of a man being shot.

Craigmiles allegedly entered the home without permission and pointed a gun at two witnesses, according to a police report. A man then came out of the bedroom and punched Craigmiles, who allegedly shot the man, Kenneth Adams in the chest, the report says.

As the man fell to the ground, the suspect allegedly stood over Adams and fired another shot, striking him in the left side of his head, according to the report.

The grand jury also indicted Monday a Springfield man who allegedly admitted to police he’s a meth dealer.

Robert D. Whitt, 29, was indicted on charges of trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, six counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, six counts of aggravated possession of drugs, carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of firearm in a motor vehicle.

Officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a car in the 300 block of Lincoln Park Circle shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11. They allegedly found Whitt behind the wheel of a 2002 Ford Taurus, according to court records, and noticed a plastic bag sticking out of Whitt’s left pants pocket that contained an unknown white substance.

Police also alleged they found cash, drugs and drug paraphernalia throughout the vehicle, along with a handgun in the back seat of the car, according to court records.

Other indictments returned this week include:

Ramon A. Boyce, 32, three counts of burglary.

Christopher Dion Bailey, 40, 1425 Woodward Ave., domestic violence.

Tonya Marie Shaw, 53, 837 Montgomery Ave., theft.

Ernest D. Ewers, 33, rape and kidnapping.

Dalton Lee Juick Konat, 24, 802 Whitepine in New Carlisle, pandering obscenity involving a minor, illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and endangering children.

Steven Wayne Oty, 39, 350 Forrest Ave., trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin and aggravated possession of drugs and aggravated possession of drugs.

Garrett Hans Baker, 18. 3350 Troy Rd., trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present.

Donald Raymond Silvers, 33, breaking & entering, possessing criminal tools and attempted breaking & entering.

Larry P. Ayers, 58, 102 E Main St/Apt 404, aggravated robbery.

Donald Raymond Silvers III, 34, 1723 Farlow Street, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility.

Delvin Ray Scott, 55 E. McCreight Ave., aggravated trafficking in drugs and aggravated possession of drugs.

Daniel J. Penwell, 27, aggravated possession of drugs.

Dereck Lemont Lytle, 28, 1615 S. Center Blvd., possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs.

Gerome A. Parsley, 38, burglary.

Anthony D. Edwards, 18, robbery.

Ronald Edward Cantrell Jr., 27, two counts of kidnapping.

Anthony D. Edwards, 18, aggravated robbery.

Javon L. Reid, 18, of Dayton, two counts of aggravated robbery.
