The pastor reported seeing what appeared to be a paint can passed around some of the boys in the group, later seeing a yellow mist rising from the area of the can. He reported he didn’t see the group spray painting, police said. The group then left, walking away on Landsdowne Avenue.

Officers found damage on the south side of the building and property when they arrived on scene. Yellow paint was found on a stair railings, asphalt and a fence in the area according to the police report. Profanity was also found spray painted on the property as well.

Two paint cans were found on the property and another was found near the church but officers were unable to collect it because it was behind a locked gate.

The church has a surveillance camera in the area where the vandalism occurred, police said, but the pastor couldn’t access it at the time of the police report. There were no other witnesses of the vandalism and no suspects identified at this time.

The church couldn’t be reached by the Springfield News-Sun for comment.
