Police: Thief caught with body wash, crack pipe

A woman will have to settle for jail toiletries after she allegedly cleared shelves at Rite Aid.

Larese Rene Watkins, 40, of the 400 block of East Southern Avenue, was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of theft, drug paraphernalia and criminal trespassing, according to the Springfield police report.

Police said Watkins walked in to the drug store, 401 W. North St., filled a plastic bag full of body wash, $117 worth, and ran out without paying.

The store manager told officers he had just stocked those shelves and now they were empty, according to the report.

Officers tracked her down a few blocks away on West High Street.

While en route back to the store, the suspect advised officers there was a glass crack pipe in the bag as well, according to the report.

Watkins was being held Thursday on $2,000 bond in the Clark County Jail.
