Parolee linked to Springfield bank robbery

A man on parole who was arrested for a robbery at a Springfield business has since been linked to a bank robbery last month, according to police and court records.

Donald Mustin, 24, is being held in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

Mustin was arrested in mid-July on suspicion of a robbery at Just Smokes, 1940 Mitchell Blvd., according to Springfield police.

Police said since he has been in custody, investigators in the July 6 armed robbery at Security National Bank, 1756 N. Limestone St., have linked Mustin’s DNA, a footprint and other circumstantial evidence to the crime.

According to the police report, the bank robber entered the bank with his face covered and jumped over the counter, pointing a handgun at the tellers and demanding money.

Customers were in the bank at the time, including a mother who ran out of the bank during the heist with her two children, according to the report.

Police said the robber ran out of the bank with approximately $5,000 and witnesses reported seeing him trying to flag down a vehicle occupied by three males.

The vehicle was stopped in the moments following the robbery, and subsequent investigation linked the vehicle owner to Mustin, according to the report.

Police said the owner of the vehicle, a woman, had a $10 bill in her possession that was taken during the robbery, and she admitted that the suspect had given it to her so she could get her nails done.

Mustin, who was on parole from a previous conviction, pleaded not guilty today in Clark County Municipal Court and the judge set bond at $20,000.
