New Carlisle man accused of striking, ordering dog to attack man

A New Carlisle man is facing multiple charges after he was accused of striking two men and setting his dog on them during a fight last year.

Tyler J. Hughes, 1250 Frayne Drive, has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of criminal trespassing. Hughes pleaded not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court on Wednesday morning. Bond was set at $12,000.

On July 13, Clark County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to a home in the 200 block of Weinland Avenue on a report of a fight. Hughes and another man began knocking on the door and he allegedly pulled one of the victims from the home and began fighting with him, according to the report. Another man allegedly began fighting another victim, throwing her to the ground and stealing her cell phone.

Moments later, Hughes and the other man walked down the sidewalk with a dog and allegedly ordered the dog to “sic him” several times, the report said. The dog began to bite the victim, but he was able to get the dog away from him. Another man then came out of the home and began shooting at the dog. Hughes, the other suspect and the dog left the scene, it said. Deputies found a trail a blood where the dog was apparently hit, but lost the trail of blood soon after locating it, the report said.

Hughes is also accused of punching another man during the fight, causing his nose to bleed. He was arrested by deputies at about 8:15 p.m. Monday, jail records said.

Hughes was also charged with fleeing and a eluding a police officer and resisting arrest after he wouldn’t stop while being pulled over by deputies. He later ran from them and was tased before he was taken into custody.
