Man gets 72-year sentence in rape, kidnapping

A man convicted of 19 criminal counts for kidnapping, beating and raping his girlfriend last May has been sentenced to 72 years in prison.

Robert Nesser, 40, could have been facing more than 100 years behind bars, but some of his sentences were ordered to run concurrently in Clark County Court today.

Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Amy Smith said this is one of the worst cases of domestic violence she has seen. The victim was beaten and raped in multiple locations over a 12-hour period. She suffered a ruptured ear drum, still has pain in her shoulders and back, and is being treated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If Nesser is ever released from prison, he will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender.
