Klonda Richey Act moves forward in Ohio statehouse

The Klonda Richey Act passed the Ohio senate this afternoon.

The bill is named for the Dayton woman who was mauled to death by two dogs outside her home in February 2014.

The bill’s sponsor is Tipp City State Sen. Bill Beagle, who told fellow lawmakers today that the dog owners faced only minor charges.

The bill would increase the penalties for dangerous dog owners who fail to control their animals. Beagle noted it does not focus on any one breed, but covers all dogs who pose a threat to people’s safety.

The bill now goes to Ohio house members for their consideration.
