1 killed in Bellefontaine motorcycle-SUV crash


A 39-year-old motorcycle rider from Galion was killed and his passenger now is in stable condition following a weekend head-on collision.

Charles Carpenter, who was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center, and 41-year-old Cathy Goodyear, also of Galion, were involved in the accident Sunday afternoon on North Main Street near the State Route 33 overpass, according to Bellefontaine police.

Carpenter and Goodyear were headed north on a 1998 Harley-Davidson when they collided with 29-year-old Christian Fischer, of County Road 153, East Liberty, who was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V.

Carpenter was taken to Grant also.

Fischer was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital. His condition was not known Monday, police said.

Police, who said they are continuing to investigate the accident, could not immediately say Monday whether Carpenter or Goodyear were wearing helmets.
