A gunman wearing a skeleton mask took a cash drawer and assaulted a Family Dollar employee Thursday night as he fled after robbing the store.

Springfield police were called around 9 p.m. to a report of a robbery at the store, 1207 N. Limestone St.

The suspect showed a weapon and then took the cash drawer from the register. He struck an employee, but it was not clear whether the worker was behind the counter or somewhere else in the store.
