Clark County law enforcement get to know community over coffee

Law enforcement from across Clark County met with people for Coffee with a Cop recently as a way to build relationships in the community.

Officers visited McDonald’s across of Clark County last week, including the one on South Limestone Street in Springfield on Friday, said Lt. Brian Aller, Springfield Post commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The events also took place across the Miami Valley, he said.

The meetings included officers from the Springfield Police Division, state troopers from the Springfield post and deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is the perfect opportunity just to sit down and have a cup of coffee, hang out and talk about whatever is going on in their lives … and just find out what’s going on in the community,” Aller said.

The event is a good way for officers to build relationships, he said, because it’s a laid-back environment. People will voice concerns in a setting like that they might never have brought up before, Aller said.

“It’s a really good opportunity just to come out and meet people,” he said. “Have them talk to officers, not necessarily in an enforcement or non-enforcement type of interaction on the street.”
