Schimmel applied to be a sheriff’s deputy earlier this year, Maj. Russell Garman of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said, and in the process of a background check, alleged illegal pictures on a tablet were uncovered.
In recent months the Clark County Sheriff’s Office has implemented polygraph tests as part of their candidate screening process, Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly has said, to weed out potential candidates who might not be fit for a job in law enforcement.
This is the first time any criminal charges have resulted from doing background testing on a deputy candidate, Garman said.

From information gathered through the polygraph test, detectives obtained a search warrant to look through Schimmel’s electronics, Garman said.
“There were 28 photos that were deemed illegal use,” he said.
The photos were allegedly found on a tablet device, the detective said, and appeared to be photos from an old nudist magazine.
Schimmel is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in a Clark County Common Pleas court later this week, according to court records.
Schimmel doesn’t have any previous criminal record in Clark County, according to local court records.
