The boy, who was not identified because of his age, is accused of selling the candy to his classmates at Bonita Vista Middle School in Chula Vista, KGTV reported.
School district spokesman Manny Rubio told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the boy sold the marijuana gummy bears during school hours and on school grounds.
At least two students became sick after eating the candy and an ambulance was called to treat them at the school, Rubio told the newspaper. They were treated and released to their parents.
Chula Vista police told the Union-Tribune that the boy accused of selling the gummy bears was arrested and released to his parents. The San Diego District Attorney’s Office will determine whether to file charges.
School officials did not say whether the children who bought the candy would face punishment, KGTV reported.
Chula Vista is a suburb of San Diego.
