Couple demands ransom for test-driven vehicle

Springfield, Ohio — A man and a woman who took a vehicle from a car dealership for a test-drive are now offering to return the vehicle in exchange for $100, according to police report.
Tim Rigel of Rigel Auto LLC at 2237 W. First St. told police that on Saturday, March 21, when the suspects took the 1998 Ford Escort valued at $2,400, the woman signed a test-drive agreement to return it by Thursday, March 26. Rigel reported the vehicle stolen on Tuesday, April 7.
Rigel told police that the man had called and offered to return the vehicle in exchange for $100.
Thefts reported to police and sheriff's deputies included:
• A woman from the 1800 block of Woodward Avenue reported a silver 1998 Buick LeSabre, valued at $2,000, stolen while it was parked at her residence between 9 and 9:29 p.m. on Monday, March 6.
• A woman from the 900 block of Linden Avenue reported a lock box and cash, valued together at $420, stolen from her residence between 8 and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7.
