SPRINGFIELD — Rising gas prices are barely a surprise to area drivers by now, and several said they are taking it all in stride as prices jumped again.

The price for a gallon of gasoline spiked about 20 cents to $3.95 at many area stations Tuesday, May 13. Several area residents said they expected the increase, and seemed resigned to higher prices.

"I'm not any more thrilled about it than anyone else, but what are you going to do?" said Paul Greene of Springfield as he filled up at a Valero Station in Springfield.

According to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the average price at area stations was $3.73 for a gallon of regular gasoline earlier this week. A month ago, the average price was $3.37.

Lisa Simpson of Milford Center said she drove to Urbana's Swifty Gas station because she was told prices were cheaper there earlier in the day. But by the time she arrived it was $3.96 a gallon. She said there's little she can do because she has to pay for gas to get to work.

Craig Ricket of Urbana said while he keeps an eye out for lower prices, he still has to cover the costs of driving to work in Dayton every day. Looking at prices nationally, he said it was only a matter of time before prices crept close to $4 a gallon here.

"It was just a matter of time when it was going to hit us," he said.
