2 Clark County athletes killed in Greene County car crash: What we know now

Two local high school students were killed in a Sunday crash in Bath Twp.

The Greene County incident happened at 3:55 p.m. Sunday and, by Sunday evening, had the Clark County community grieving.

Here’s what we know now about the incident and its aftermath:

The incident. Four teenagers were in a 2005 Toyota Corolla that drifted right, overcorrected, went off the left side of the road and hit two trees on Wilkerson Road between Fairborn and Yellow Springs.

The deceased. Both rear passengers — David Waag, 17 of Beavercreek, and Connor Williams, 15 of Fairborn, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

Others injured. The driver, Trey Blevins, 18 of Enon, and the right front passenger, Zach Knauer, 17 of Springfield, were transported to Soin Medical Center with minor injuries and for observation.

More on the deceased. Waag was a senior soccer player at Greenon High School, and Williams, a sophomore, played football and attended Global Impact STEM Academy.

Community reacts. Community members came together Sunday night at the Greenon High School football field to grieve the loss of the two boys. Some brought candles, others illuminated cellphones to light the night in honor of David Waag and Connor Williams.

Schools react. Greenon Local Schools and Global Impact STEM Academy announced that they would close on Monday following the incident.
