Champaign couple dead in murder-suicide

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and Bureau of Investigation’s Identification Division are investigating a murder-suicide that left a Woodstock couple dead Saturday.

Helen Meeks, who was in her early 50s, dialed 911 at 6:59 p.m. and said she killed her husband David Meeks, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the couple’s home in the 200 block of Bennett Street.

The first deputy on the scene reported hearing a gunshot fired inside the home.

When police and EMS entered the home, the Meeks had gunshot wounds and were dead.

“According to our dispatch we had no history of being called to that residence,” said Dep. John McNeely, of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

McNeely said the county dispatch records go back a couple of years.
