FAIRBORN —

Wright State University is offering a new master of science degree in cyber security, the university said.

WSU’s Department of Computer Science developed the program with advice from experts from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the headquarters of the U.S. Air Force’s logistics and research operations and department Chair Mateen “Matt” Rizki, WSU said in an announcement.

“The Dayton region has a large need for people with advanced cyber skills because of its concentration of national security missions at Wright-Patterson and a large community of defense-related companies,” Rizki said in the university’s statement.

The first courses in the program are being offered this semester. The program will require 24 semester hours, which usually take about 18 months to complete.

The degree is “tailored” for people working already in the information industry, with evening courses being offered and the option of working with industry partners instead of on a traditional thesis, WSU said.
