Wright-Patterson gets new base commander Monday

Staff Report

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The base changes commanders on Monday, June 21, when Col. Amanda Gladney takes over for the departing Col. Bradley Spacy as commander of the 88th Air Base Wing.

Gladney has served most recently as deputy chief information officer on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, which serves the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Spacy is leaving Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he arrived in July 2008, for a Pentagon job as chief of Air Force-Senate liaison.

The 88th Air Base Wing, as the host unit, is responsible for operating and defending Wright-Patterson. The wing commander, sometimes described as having duties similar to those of a mayor or city manager, often speaks at community and business functions in the Dayton area.

Gladney will be the second woman to serve as base commander. The first was Col. Colleen Ryan, who retired from the Air Force in 2008. Ryan is now a vice president with the Dayton Development Coalition.
