Wright-Patt Credit Union is building a new location in Springfield, an approximately $2 million investment, according to the organization.

This will replace Wright-Patt’s sole Springfield location in a strip mall at 1697 N. Bechtle Ave. The new freestanding credit union branch, planned to open February 2013, will be bigger, add a drivethru and have its own parking lot, said Darrick Weeks, chief operating officer of Fairborn-based Wright-Patt.

“The branch we’ve had there has been very successful, we’ve grown it and we feel the desire to invest in the community,” Weeks said. “We do believe we’ve got an opportunity to grow.”

Construction started this month on the approximately 4,000-square-foot building at 2097 N. Bechtle Ave., Springfield, according to Dave Fisher, Wright-Patt’s facilities manager. It’s less than a mile away from the existing office.

Wright-Patt, the state’s largest credit union, first opened its Springfield location in 2008. It has 10 employees and serves 6,100 members, Weeks said. The Clark County branch has $44 million in deposits and has done $23 million in loans.

The credit union has a total 24 locations, including Springfield and one in Urbana. A Springboro location, the first one in Warren County, will also open next year.
