DAYTON — The success of the University of Dayton’s Flyer Investments Team will be highlighted Wednesday, Nov. 25, on CNBC.

The business news channel is scheduled to broadcast a report at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday about the strong performance of the student-managed Flyer Fund, according to university officials.

The report also will note the recent approval by the UD board of trustees to add $2 million to the fund, bringing the total to $10.5 million, officials said.

CNBC reporter Courtney Reagan visited the UD campus last week and taped a meeting of the investment team, which manages nearly $9 million of the university’s endowment.

Reagan interviewed several students on the team, as well as David Sauer, director of the Davis Center for Portfolio Management, and Richard Davis, a university trustee.

The student fund has achieved strong performances over the years, beating the S&P 500 at the one-, three-, five- and 10-year benchmarks, according to Thomas Burkhardt, university vice president for finance and administrative services.

“While a number of professional investment firms manage the university’s endowment, the student-managed portfolio fund continues consistently to perform exceptionally well,” Burkhardt said.

The fund is one of the nation’s 15 largest investment funds managed by undergraduate students, according to UD officials.
