SPRINGFIELD — Navistar International and United Auto Workers on Saturday, have reached a tentative agreement on new four-year labor contracts, company officials announced Saturday.

The agreement is subject to ratification through a majority vote by UAW members at six Navistar locations. Voting is expected to held this week at each of eight UAW locals representing facilities in Springfield, Melrose Park, Ill., York, Pa., Atlanta, Dallas and Fort Wayne.

According to a company release, the temporary agreement will be ratified if approved by 50 percent of the total votes cast.

If approved, the contracts will replace the three-year agreements that expired Oct. 1.

Details of the agreement will not be released to the public until after the ratification vote.

About 315 of some 500 UAW Local 402 workers have been laid off from the Springfield facility, with the first 250 layoffs occurring on Oct. 9 and another 65 this week.
