SPRINGFIELD — Employees who have fun and enjoy freedom to make decisions helped two local businesses make a list of the top 60 workplaces in the Dayton region.

Security National Bank, headquartered at 40 S. Limestone St., and Enon-based seepex inc. were considered top workplaces by a survey that polled 10,000 area workers.

WorkplaceDynamics — the company that conducted the survey — asked employees about how their employers operate, whether their employers are headed in the right direction, if employees are given opportunities to grow and about pay and benefits among other things.

Local companies Comfort Keepers and American Pan were also on the list. The News-Sun profiled those companies earlier.

At Security National, the key is to give employees opportunities at success while having an environment that they can enjoy.

“We empower (our employees), we do a good job of training them and helping them every day,” said Bill Fralick, president of Security National. “We try to show respect for each other.”

At the bank, Fralick said one of their four core values is “fun,” and people there act as a family.

Fralick said to be a good workplace, it’s important to create an environment that is familial and involved in the community.

He said that almost everyone is involved in the community, and the bank sponsors and supports many of activities and organizations.

Security Bank’s largest expense is their salary expense, Fralick added. And besides providing training, the company provides extensive benefits and perks such as a fully funded pension program, reimbursement for child care and tuition reimbursement.

At seepex inc., where workers make equipment to pump a variety of liquids for the food, gas and oil industries, they blur the lines between management and employees to create a comfortable environment.

“If I were to sum it up, the aggregate group of our employees is much smarter than the management,” said Kamran Mirza, seepex director of business development, laughing.

“We don’t hesitate to bring in smart, creative people with good talents and skills and give them the opportunity and freedom to do what they do best with their skills, and that’s been a success story.”

Mirza said the company tries to do its best to be rid of the normal hierarchical constructs, makes senior management accessible to employees, and encourages employees to be vocal about their ideas and criticisms.

seepex has 95 full-time employees, which they provide with constant training opportunities and post job opportunities frequently.

“The company assists in getting whatever training they need to get into areas of their interest, and we encourage (employees) to pursue career paths,” Mirza said.

And like at Security National, Mirza said seepex wants employees to enjoy their work.

“If they’re happy doing what they’re doing, they’ll do a better job,” he said.
