Staff Report
Honda plants in North America continue to deal with a parts supply disruption caused by flooding in Thailand.
Though two “non-production” days are scheduled — this coming Friday and a newly scheduled non-production day on Friday Nov. 18 — American Honda Motor Co. Inc. released a statement Tuesday morning saying it “remains focused” on not laying off any workers at its North American plants.
Non-production days are treated at “no pay, no penalty” days, meaning Honda employees may report to work, use a vacation day and take the day off without compensation or penalty, a Honda statement said.
Auto production rates will vary plant to plant, the automaker said.
In 2010, 87 percent of Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the United States were produced in North America.
Honda has not laid off any Ohio workers since it began producing cars and motorcycles in Ohio in the late 1970s. The company has some 13,400 Ohio workers, including about 1,300 Dayton-area residents.
