With temperatures rising, it’s time to make sure your air conditioning system won’t fail you when it really heats up. Air conditioning companies get busier in the summer, so having your system checked now can help you stay cool later.
Experts recommend having your system inspected annually to ensure it operates more efficiently. Plus, technicians can detect small problems before they become costly repairs. But, don’t just call any air conditioning company. You want to make sure the company is trustworthy and the technicians are knowledgeable, skilled and qualified to do the job.
Ask friends and family to recommend air conditioning companies they’ve been satisfied with. The Better Business Bureau can provide you with a list of more than 120 BBB Accredited heating and air conditioning companies or business reviews on ones you’re considering. Visit www.bbb.org or call (937) 222-5825 or (800) 776-5301.
Request bids from at least three air conditioning companies detailing the work to be done, materials needed, cost and payment terms. Consider reputation, years of service and services provided, as well as cost. Make sure the company is licensed, bonded and insured and have it pull any necessary city or county permits for inspections.
Be on the lookout for technicians who come to your home offering quick solutions and using misleading statements, high pressure or scare tactics to get you to agree to hire them. And, don’t be afraid to get a second opinion if large repairs are recommended.
Once you’ve decided on the right air conditioning company, get everything in writing, including the contract, warranty and guarantee. Don’t sign anything until you understand it and make sure all blanks are completed.
There are several steps you can take to keep your air conditioning working efficiently. Leave your thermostat set at a comfortable temperature, replace or clean air filters as needed, keep outdoor air conditioning coils clear of dirt, grass clippings and leaves and make sure you close windows and doors while running the air conditioning.
Don’t lose your cool this summer. Get your air conditioning system inspected now by a trustworthy company.
