Aerospace trade show won’t reappear in Dayton until 2013

DAYTON — Organizers of an aerospace trade and technology exposition that made its debut last year to coordinate with the 2009 Dayton Air Show said Monday they won’t be able to resume the trade expo until 2013.

When the U.S. Air, Trade and Technology Expo began in July 2009 at the Dayton International Airport, the plan was to repeat it every second year, with the next event planned in July 2011.

But the expo’s board of directors has decided to wait until 2013, board chairman Kent Owsley said.

He cited a combination of reasons, including more time to obtain U.S. Department of Commerce accreditation for the expo so that participating companies would be encouraged to announce business deals there; the sluggish economy that is prompting many companies to cut back on discretionary travel to special events, and an effort to attract more military and civilian aerospace representatives to attend the event.

Dayton Defense, the regional defense contractors’ association, and the Air Force Association, an advocacy group of former and current Air Force personnel, are working with national aerospace companies to organize the 2013 expo, Owsley said.

He said the plan is to have it run concurrently with the 2013 Dayton Air Show and the Wright Dialogue with Industry, a Dayton Defense event that attracts Air Force officials and occurs each July at the Hope Hotel and Conference Center, located on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
