AdCare reports record 2011 growth

SPRINGFIELD — AdCare Health Systems, an operator of skilled nursing facilities, made record revenues in the fourth quarter and for all of last year mostly due to acquisitions, the company reported Friday.

Total 2011 revenues increased 198 percent to $151.4 million, compared to revenues of $50.8 million in 2010, according to AdCare. Revenues in the fourth quarter of 2011 increased 76 percent to $45.4 million, compared to $25.8 million for the same quarter in 2010.

But the bottom line for the year was still an overall net loss, in part due to expenses related to the company’s acquisitions. Its net loss for 2011 was approximately $7.5 million, according to AdCare.

Just in the fourth quarter of 2011, the company said it completed the acquisition of a skilled nursing and assisted living community in Mountain View, Ark., completed the acquisition of a skilled nursing and assisted living community in Springfield, signed a purchase agreement for three skilled nursing facilities in Arkansas and signed a purchase agreement for five skilled nursing facilities in Oklahoma.

“AdCare has put under contract 59 facilities since we began our merger and acquisition campaign in the fall of 2009 and 32 since the beginning of 2011,” said Chris Brogdon, AdCare’s chief acquisition officer, in the release.

“We are currently evaluating several attractive opportunities in the Southern region of the U.S with accretive acquisitions and the optimization of our facilities continuing to be our major focus in 2012,” he added.

At the end of 2011, AdCare operated 42 facilities comprised of 33 skilled nursing centers, eight assisted living residences and one independent living/senior housing facility, with 3,737 total beds in service.
