The chicken chain operates three restaurants in the region: in Harrison Twp. north of Dayton, and in Springfield and Fairfield. A Sugarcreek Twp. location at 5800 Wilmington Pike near I-675 shut its doors in 2010.

Last summer, Pat Gilligan, a Popeyes franchise owner for southwest Ohio, told this news outlet that he had plans for a new Springboro location, and said he was looking to develop three or four more locations over the next year and a half. No other announcements for new locations have been made, and Springboro officials said today, Feb. 21, that no building plans have been submitted for the Springboro restaurant. Gilligan could not be reached for comment.
Tim Hortons, also a part of RBI, is in the midst of a significant Dayton-area expansion.

According to RBI, Popeyes will continue to be managed independently in the United States. Popeyes began 45 years ago as a Southern-themed “Chicken on the Run” restaurant in a New Orleans suburb. It has since expanded to 1,600 restaurants in the United States and more than 400 abroad.
