The goal is to recommend a national measurement standard and a sound power labeling agreement for small unmanned aerial systems, the Air Force said in a release.
The Federal Aviation Administration could decide to require manufacturers to label drones based on the information, according to the Air Force.
As part of the research, the Air Force will measure drone noises at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Owens Corning will explore the issue at its Acoustics Research Laboratory in Granville, Ohio.
