Graham boys named top D-II team in first poll
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
ST. PARIS — The Graham High School boys basketball has a new distinction — the honor of being the top-ranked team in Division II.
The Falcons (8-0) were ranked No. 1 in D-II in the first AP state poll, released Monday, Jan. 12.
"It's a nice honor and nice for our kids to get that recognition," said Graham coach Brook Cupps, "but it really doesn't mean anything for what we're trying to accomplish."
Graham, which fell to Toledo Libbey in the D-II
state semifinals last season, has won 31 straight regular-season games. Graham earned 11 first-place votes, six better than No. 2 Circleville Logan Elm.
"It doesn't matter where you are right now," Cupps said. "That (No. 1) is where you want to be at the end."
Also, Southeastern (8-0) is ranked No. 9 in
D-IV, while Kenton Ridge is No. 11 in D-II.
