MIAMISBURG — Motorists passing through the intersection of First Street and Central Avenue in downtown Miamisburg now see a beautiful and enormous mural that captures images of the city's history and its modern times.
Local artist Eric Henn of Franklin said the 18 feet by 85 feet painted brick mural took about a year to complete and 40 gallons of paint to get about 300 shades.
Henn, who has been painting for more than 21 years, said city officials asked him to create a mural that paid tribute to Miamisburg's rich history in the Miami Valley and also illustrated the revitalization now taking place in the city.
The mural includes images of American Indians, historical buildings, a downtown fountain dating back to the early 1900s and inline skaters.
"I really have a lot of respect for the Miamisburg officials for getting something like this accomplished, because that's the hard part," said Henn, whose work can be found in communities across the nation.
"Once it was done, everyone sees the value in it, but it's hard for people to imagine it, and that can make it tough for communities to get projects like this done," Henn said.
The Montgomery County Arts & Cultural District, Miamisburg Rotary Club and Miami Visual Arts Foundation funded the $25,000 project.
"This is a beautiful piece of artwork that enhances the look and feel of downtown Miamisburg," said Mayor Richard Church. "I want to commend Eric for his outstanding work, and I want to thank the funding partners who made this project possible."
