Two dead, two injured in head-on collision in St. Paris

St. Paris, Ohio — Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured in the first fatal traffic crash in Champaign County this year.
At about 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 3, a 2004 Dodge Ram heading westbound on U.S. 36 near Zimmerman Road collided with a 1997 Oldsmobile 88 heading east, said Lt. Rick Zwayer, of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Kenneth R. McDowell, 62, the driver of the car, and Joseph A. McDowell, 63, both of Urbana, were in the Oldsmobile and were killed in the crash.
Jerry D. Payne, 60, who drove the Dodge Ram, and Sara E. Payne, 22, both of St. Paris were in the Dodge Ram and were initially transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana, and then taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The accident occurred when Kenneth McDowell drove left of center and struck the pickup head-on, according to troopers.
