Urbana, Ohio — A Christiansburg man was arraigned in Champaign County Municipal Court Monday, March 9, after he was accused of taking his 2-year-old son from his home and setting off a chain of events that led to an Amber Alert over the weekend.
Christopher Lucas, of Christiansburg, is facing one charge of child endangering, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Lucas is scheduled to face a hearing at 3 p.m. March 12, said Champaign County Municipal Court Judge Susan Fornof-Lippincott.
Bond was set at $2,000 and he was ordered to stay away from the child, she said. Jonathan Dever was appointed as his attorney.
Champaign County Sheriff Brent Emmons said the child's mother reported the boy missing Friday night, and that Lucas had a history of mental illness. After the Amber Alert was issued Saturday, Police officers in Springfield located the pair in their vehicle at about 8:50 p.m. The child was not injured, and Lucas was placed in custody. He is being held at the Champaign County Jail.
Emmons said Lucas lived with the rest of the family, but authorities felt the Amber Alert was appropriate because of his mental condition.
"(Lucas) left Friday and left a few older kids at the house unattended," Emmons said.
Lucas was also not taking medication for his condition, Emmons said.
"All these things, taken together, gave us concern," he said.
