Husband says wife shot during sex

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

Urbana Twp., Ohio — A Champaign County woman's condition worsened from serious to critical Monday, Dec. 1 — one day after she suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at her home.

Carolyn Havens, 42, of 4960 East County Line Road was taken to a local hospital, then by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital after the incident that occurred around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Her estranged husband, Timothy Havens, 38, called Clark County 911 at 6:59 a.m. to report his wife had been shot while being intimate.

"Well not shot ... she got up, we got up (from) the bed... the gun was laying there by the bed and she got shot," Havens told the 911 operator. "She had her gun laying there beside the bed."

He later told dispatch the gun was on the bed and he threw it off.

Carolyn Havens had, earlier this year, filed a civil protection order against her husband, which is still current, said Sgt. Chris Copeland of the Champaign County Sheriff's office. In September, Timothy Havens was found guilty of violating that order and of assault.

He was taken in for questioning and was released. No arrests have been made. The case is still under investigation, Copeland said.
