SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Community Mercy Health Partners will break ground on the future Springfield Regional Medical Center in a special blessing ceremony, Friday, Oct. 10.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will be held on part of the future hospital site at North and Plum streets in downtown Springfield. The public is invited to attend.

U.S. Rep. David Hobson, state and local leaders are expected to participate in the event that will conclude with a ground blessing conducted by local religious and hospital leaders.

In April, the city began clearing more than 40 acres downtown for the new medical center. The hospital site is bordered by Buck Creek to the north, West Columbia Street to the south and Wittenberg Avenue and Yellow Springs Street to the east and west.

The grand opening of the 264-bed, 475,000-square-foot Springfield Regional Medical Center is planned for 2012.

Community Mercy Health Partners is a member of Catholic Healthcare Partners of Cincinnati, the largest not-for-profit health system in Ohio and one of the largest in the nation.
