RIVERSIDE — Police are investigating the death of a 2-month-old girl found dead July 4 in its home at 612 Pleasant Valley Ave.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the infant as Isabella Ritter.
Police responded to a 911 call and found the baby dead in bed with its parents, Riverside Police Sgt. Kim Griffin said. The child was pronounced dead at 1:11 p.m.
"Everything is under investigation," Griffin said.
Griffin declined to give further details on the investigation, but said parents should follow the "ABC's" when putting a baby to bed: Alone, on its Back and in a Crib.
The death follows another infant death that occurred Wednesday after a father apparently fell asleep on top of his 4-month-old son in his Dayton apartment at 3051 Jewelstone Drive.
Perinatal expert Mary Ann Swank of Children's Medical Center of Dayton described that death, which is still under investigation, as a "tragic sleep accident" or "layover death," a phenomenon that kills more than 2,500 babies across the country each year, including four who were seen at Children's last year.
Staff writer Lucas Sullivan contributed to this report.
