Clark County Commissioners loan county general fund $1 million
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Springfield, Ohio — Clark County's budget woes continue and county commissioners transferred $1 million to the ailing general fund to cover payments Tuesday, May 20.
"We've got a lot of payments hitting the general fund at the the time," County Administrator Darrell Howard said.

The $1 million is coming from the county's contingency fund to address the temporary cash flow needs.
The county started 2008 with just $6,237 unencumbered in the general fund, the lowest that Howard had seen in 35 years in his position.
Howard is sure that the general fund will be able to pay the money back, as are the county commissioners.
"I feel that we had a few more expenses than normal at this time of year and the expenses will decrease and the income will increase," Commissioner John Detrick said.
Commission President Roger Tackett said that although sales tax revenues are not "as good as we would prefer, there are a lot of good things on the horizon," citing economic development through Nextedge and Ritchie Bros.
"Short-term, we're having some difficulty, but in the long-term we will move ahead," Tackett added.
