Springfield Ford to change hands

Springfield, Ohio — After eight years as President of Springfield Ford, Erick Collins has decided to shift gears.
"I made the decision to sell the dealership back to the company and Ford is currently negotiating with prospective buyers," said the 18-year veteran of the auto industry.

Collins spent time in Detroit with Ford in its sales and marketing division prior to purchasing the local dealership.
The company assured Collins the dealership, at 5600 Urbana Road, will remain open, even thought the company is currently consolidating dealerships nationwide in a move to downsize its retail operations.
Ford's declining market share — now about 14 percent — and changes in the automobile industry impacted Collins's decision.
"In any business, you expect to get a decent return on your investment and that really hasn't happened here for the past eight years," he said.
Even though he will no longer run the show, Collins is confident the dealership will remain viable and provide a good opportunity for the next owner.
Ford will be offering some exciting new products over the next three years and has fuel-efficient cars that get more than 30 miles per gallon, he said.
"We've accomplished a great deal," he said, "and no matter what happens, Springfield will not lose Springfield Ford."
Collins, a husband, father and involved business owner, has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and participated as a sponsor for community events including Holiday in the City.
He has no plans to leave the area.
He has no definite career plans, either, but is glad to have the opportunity to seek out a new career path with his faith leading him on this new journey.
"I want to do something that will make a true difference in people's lives...God is leading our lives and I completely trust in his decision," he said.
