SPRINGFIELD — Sharen Neuhardt, Democratic candidate for the 7th District U.S. Congressional seat, wants to assure Clark County and Springfield voters that she recognizes the importance of the area.

"That's why I'm right here, where I'm going to stay," Neuhardt said at the grand opening of her campaign headquarters Wednesday, May 14, in downtown Springfield, 43 S. Fountain Ave. "When I win the race, this is where we're going to have our congressional office."

Neuhardt will face off against state Sen. Steve Austria, R-Beavercreek, for the congressional seat of retiring Dave Hobson, R-Springfield.

"I know Springfield is Dave Hobson's hometown, so Springfield has special angst about him retiring," Neuhardt said, adding that establishing her office in Springfield is a statement to reassure voters that she will not neglect the area if she is elected.

About 75 supporters attended the opening, including Clark County Truman-Kennedy Club President Dan Saks.

Saks said Neuhardt will be more progressive on issues like health care and the war in Iraq.

Georgette Maizur, a 30-year Clark County resident, said Neuhardt would bring a welcome change to Congress.
