SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Children's hospital honors nurses
The Children's Medical Center of Dayton honored several nurses for their contributions during the annual Nurse's Day celebration May 8. Local Excellence in Nursing Award winners were: JoAnn Davis of Cedarville, pediatric intensive care unit: clinical judgment; Brenda Cochran of Springfield, almost home unit: facilitator of learning; and Julie Hardy of Springfield, neonatal intensive care unit: outstanding new graduate.

Evans president of cemetery association
Roger Evans was re-elected president of the association that operates Ferncliff Cemetery April 29 at the 144th annual membership meeting of the Springfield Cemetery Association.
Other elected officers are: Paul Recknagel, vice president; Dale Miller, treasurer; Stanley Spitler, secretary; and David Martin, assistant secretary. Dale Miller and P. Gus Geil were elected trustees, and Robert Kercher was appointed to serve on the executive committee.
Walters elected regent of DAR
Eveyln Walters has been elected regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lagonda Chapter, for the term 2008-10 term.
Other elected officers are: Anne VanPelt, vice regent; Glenna Kadel, chaplain; Carol Spurlock, second vice regent; Vicki Regoli, recording secretary; Ann Delanglade, corresponding secretary; Marilyn Coalla, registrar; Lois Wittke, historian; Eleanor Wright, librarian; Jacqueline Bonner, parliamentarian; Jane Irwin, custodian of the flag; and Ruth Bayley, Mildred Thomas, Marilyn Baglia and Jacquelyn Juergens, directors.
Smith named chief clinical officer
Mark Smith has been appointed chief clinical officer of Mental Health Services for Clark and Madison Counties Inc.
A native of Springfield and a graduate of the Springfield City Schools, Smith joined MHS in 1993. He has served as medical director of the inpatient unit and provided psychiatric services to patients in the adult outpatient program, community support and in London, Ohio.
In his new position, Smith manages the clinical aspects of MHS's therapies and programs. He works with and helps guide the organization's physicians and staff to ensure the quality and compliance of services and treatments.
