Clark County Common Pleas Judge Richard O'Neill dismissed the jury at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and ordered them back at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Last week, the children testified to being hit with sticks, belts and hammers, starved for days and being duct-taped to beds and chairs.
Ferguson is accused of using extreme forms of punishment on his children between 2000 and 2004.
His wife, Vonda, 44, faces similar charges with an additional count of felonious assault and two counts of rape. She is scheduled to stand trial May 5.
The children were removed from the home in 2004 and the Fergusons gave up custody of them in 2005.
