SPRINGFIELD — Clark County Commissioners support the development of wind energy and a state mandate requiring that 20 percent of Ohio's energy come from renewable energy sources by 2025, officials said Tuesday, March 11.

The only area in the county that would support large windmills is on a ridge along the east side of state Route 54, going into the Village of Catawba, Commissioner John Detrick said during the commission meeting.

There have been no requests to construct a windmill, he said.

In the resolution passed Tuesday, the commissioners recognized that wind energy could save Ohio about $200 million by 2020.

I like he concept of wind energy, but the issue is more complex than “wind is clean.” There are conservationists who decry the cluttering of the landscape with those massive, ugly wind farms. Still, wind is attractive in many ways. This guy lays it out pretty well: http://digits.hrblock.com/ssDigits/digits.php?rType=1&sPath=1665&sNode=1665&uId=279

It’s very obvious who listens to Rush, Sean and watches Fox News. If you think the earth is not going through major changes right now you are blind and deaf. I’m not sure how much we can do to stop anything, but every little bit can help. Analogy: What if everyone threw their trash out the window going down the highway? Doesn’t it make sense that if we all make the effort to not litter, the highways would be cleaner?

If you think global warming is a “hoax” wait till you see what the upcoming energy crisis/oil dependancy/running out scenerio does for you. Try $10.00 plus a gallon. We’d better get fossil fuel undependant or its the end of the world as we know it. “Hoax.”

Having just been in California this past weekend and having seen miles and miles of ugly wind mills, I am not a supporter. In CA, these ugly machines are on many hillsides and on farmland. They can only run during specified times of a day or week because of the birds and other animals that are killed by the blades. They attribute to only 5% of energy resources which is not enough to keep them running efficiently. Research is needed before jumping on that bandwagon.

I think it’s a good idea, there are many options out there, tapping into them is just a step forward. Think back a century ago,, windmills on farms etc.
