At a vigil at Greenon High School Wednesday night, more than 200 friends and parents lit candles in memory of the freshman star basketball player.
Zach Glidewell, his step-brother, said he was not surprised at the turnout.
"That kid touched so many lives it's unreal," he said. "He was special."
Jacobson was a passenger in a car that was eastbound on Rebert Pike around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The car, driven by 16-year-old Austin R. Wickliffe was struck by another vehicle turning left onto Rebert Pike from Fowler Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
That car was driven by Beavercreek resident Margaret A. Rohani, 71.
Jacobson was not wearing a seat belt, officials said.
Rohani and three passengers in her car also weren't injured. A second passenger in Wickliffe's car suffered non life-threatening injuries while a third passenger was not hurt.
The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident.
Wednesday night's crowd at the celebration of Jacobson's young life stretched across the entire length of the oval track at Greenon High School.
A small group of students also gathered in the middle of the football field and quietly sang "Amazing Grace."
