In what appeared to be a home invasion, a German Township resident shot and killed one man and critically wounded another shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said deputies were called to 3839 Darnell Road on the report of a robbery and shots fired.

They arrived to find two suspects both shot multiple times. One died on the porch of the ranch and the other was taken by medic to Mercy Medical Center and flown to Miami Valley Hospital.

Kelly said it appeared that the men who had been shot were armed and that a resident of the home scuffled with one of the men after the forcibly entered the house. One of the suspects dropped a gun and a resident picked it up and shot both men.

Another resident of the house appeared to have been grazed by a bullet but not seriously injured.

Both residents were taken to the Clark County Sheriff's Office for questioning.

Kelly did not disclose the identities of the men shot or the residents as of 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Detectives were waiting for a search warrant to search the property while other investigators combed the area for a vehicle believed to be connected to the home invasion.

About a dozen neighbors gathered in the rain around the ranch house as deputies worked the scene. Neighbor Tom Sarven said he did not know who lived in the house but believed they moved in about five months ago. The neighborhood is a quiet one, Sarven said.

He said he heard the shots but thought a car had backfired. It wasn't until deputies arrived that he knew the situation was serious.
