Clark County Commission picks new insurance provider

Tuesday, November 07, 2006

Medical Mutual of Ohio will be Clark County's new medical insurance provider, after the county commissioners in a split vote Tuesday chose the proposal most similar to the current plan with the lowest increase in cost.

Commissioners John Detrick and Roger Tackett supported MMO, which had been recommended by commission staff, a 12-member Labor-Management Health Insurance Committee and an insurance consultant.

Commissioner David Hartley opposed MMO and favored a plan from the County Employee Benefits Consortium of Ohio.

MMO provides similar coverage to the county's current plan from United Health Care, except employees won't be able to fill prescriptions at Walgreen's. MMO offered the lowest price increase, at 4.7 percent or $13.4 million.
