COLUMBUS — Sorry Buckeye fans. In a contest against Michigan over health, the state up north wins.
Sort of.
Michigan ranked 30th in the nation while Ohio came in 33rd in the 2009 America’s Health Rankings released this week.
But Ohio beat Michigan in three key categories: smoking, binge drinking and obesity.
In Ohio, 20.1 percent of adults smoke, 16.4 percent binge drink and 29.2 percent are obese.
In Michigan, 20.4 percent smoke, 18.1 percent binge drink, and 29.5 percent are obese.
Michigan, however, edged out Ohio for a higher overall ranking with better scores on indicators such as air pollution, infant mortality and cancer deaths.
