Most nuns don’t choose to wear habits anymore. One place they’re required to is in the 1985 musical comedy “Nunsense,” which would definitely not be the same in business casual.
The Dayton Playhouse, 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave., is bringing back the show that launched a series that went so far as to put males in habits (“Nunsense A-Men”).
Greg Smith is staging the production, which also boasts Nancy Perrin as musical director and Kristin Sutter as choreographer.
The cast of notables includes Tina McPhearson (former Victoria Theatre Association vice president for programming) as Mother Superior, Sherri Sutter as Sister Mary Amnesia, Ellen Finch as Sister Mary Hubert, Amy Askins as Sister Robert Ann and Kelli Locker as Sister Mary Leo.
They are the last surviving members of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. They may not convert you, but they should amuse you.
More than 25,000 women in the world have played these roles, a measure of the show’s popularity and, perhaps, of the public’s fondness for habits.
Times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 3-19. Tickets are $10-$15. Call (937) 424-8477 or www.daytonplayhouse.com.
