It's time for pools, picnics and parades.

With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of summer this weekend, activities abound for fun, including the annual Springfield parade Monday, May 26.

Extras

Splash Zone Family Aquatic Center also opens for its second season Saturday.

The park features three water slides, diving boards, a lap pool, lazy river, spray ground and more.

Either this year or next, National Trail Parks and Recreation CEO Doug Nist would like to start a swim team and lessons.

That creates more users for the pool and improves safety, he said.

"It's a great exercise," Nist said. "Swimming is one of those sports you can do your entire life."

Splash Zone will be open noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and then close again until May 31.

From then until Labor Day, the hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays.

Daily admission is $6.50 for adults, $4 for children and free for children 2 or younger.

Season passes are $65 for a Clark County resident or $220 for a family of four.

For out-of-county residents, passes are $85 for an individual or $275 for a family of four.

Nist reminded swimmers that they must wear swimsuits that don't have any metal zippers, eyelets or grommets.

Those can catch on a slide or scratch it.

Splash Zone can be reached this year by a connector to the Simon Kenton Trail.

"You can ride your bike from downtown out to the pool and not have to ride on a city street," Nist said.
