Carson's three TDs lead Warriors to first win

SPRINGFIELD — After starting 0-2, Northwestern needed someone to step up and make some big plays.

On Friday, Sept. 5, Tony Carson was that someone.

Carson caught only two passes from DeRick Newton, but both for touchdowns of 55 and 10 yards, and changed the momentum of the game for good with an 80-yard kickoff return to led the Warriors past Greeneview 24-12.

Up 18-0 at the half, the Warriors (1-2) saw Greeneview cut into that lead with a 46-yard TD pass from Kris Partin to Eddie Bonk. Then Carson returned the ensuing kick to ice the Rams (0-3).

Jared Shafer led the offense with 68 yards on nine carries, while Newton was

7-of-15 for 106 yards. Defensively, Kyle Stephenson had three interceptions.

Triad 42,

Waynesfield-Goshen 0

NORTH LEWISBURG — Triad senior quarterback Ethan James' 353 yards of total offense helped Triad improve to 3-0.

James went 18-for-37 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception through the air. He added 81 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries on the ground.

Josh Keatley rushed 12 times for 42 yards and a TD.

Austin Dixon had six catches for 157 yards and touchdown, while Dustin Howell had eight catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Tecumseh 38,

Miami Trace 3

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — Kyle Sanning rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries as the Arrows improved to 3-0.

Dustin Holmes had 114 yards rushing on seven carries.

The Arrows rushed for 363 total yards in the victory.

They'll host Urbana in a battle of 3-0 teams next Friday.

WLS 46, Riverside 0

DeGRAFF — Senior quarterback Brice Baumgardner rushed for 193 yards on 19 carries and went 8-for-16 for 85 yards and two touchdowns through the air as the Tigers improved to 3-0.

Zach Culley rushed for 103 yards on 17 carries and three TDs.

WLS wracked up 496 yards of total offense, including 390 on the ground. They held Riverside to 31 yards rushing.

Cedarville 33,

Yellow Springs 0

CEDARVILLE — Ty Ashbaugh went 3-for-3 through the air for 146 yards and three touchdowns as the Indians gave Jim Villinger his first win in his return to the gridiron.

Kyle Spracklen had 64 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Cedarville (1-2), while Luke Sheridan had two catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Ashbaugh added 132 yards on the ground

London 27, Northeastern 18

SPRINGFIELD — Damon Williams had 233 yards of total offense as the Jets fell to 0-3.

Northeastern trailed 14-0 heading into the fourth quarter, but roared back to tie the score at 14 after touchdown runs by Logan Frost and Chad Phillips.

London (1-2) responded with back-to-back touchdown runs to seal the win.

Williams went 13-for-21 for 155 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in the air and rushed for 78 yards on 16 carries.

Madison Plains 21, Southeastern 14

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Senior Drew Clemons had two fumbles recoveries for touchdowns, but the Trojans (1-2) couldn't overcome a 21-0 halftime deficit.

Clemons returned the first fumble 90 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, then recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to make it 21-14 early in the fourth quarter. He also rushed 14 times for 44 yards.

Mechanicsburg 35, Fairbanks 14

MILFORD CENTER — Mechanicsburg junior Joe Webb rushed seven times for 122 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown run, as the Indians improved to 3-0.

Eaton 41, Greenon 0

EATON — The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead, handing Greenon its first loss of the season.

Lance Steiner led the team with 31 yards rushing on 11 carries. Eaton held Greenon (2-1) to 110 total yards.

Benjamin Logan 21, Kenton Ridge 18

RUSHYLVANIA — Ethan Sharpin tossed for 172 yards and two TDs in the loss.

Kevin Johnson rushed 30 times for 172 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars (1-2).

Jonathan Alder 13, Graham 0

ST. PARIS — Logan White had 66 yards on 13 carries as the Falcons fell to 0-3.
