Ohio Democrat says he's open to casino discussions
Comment: What do you think about allowing casinos in Ohio?
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The new speaker of the Ohio House said he is willing to consider casino gambling as a way to increase state revenue.
Democrat Armond Budish of Beachwood said gambling is just one option to help close the anticipated $7 billion shortfall in the state's two-year budget.
Ohio voters have rejected casino gambling four times, but gambling interests already are regrouping.
Budish said he has met with representatives of Penn National Gaming Inc., which owns Toledo Raceway in northwest Ohio and the Argosy riverboat casino in southeast Indiana, near Cincinnati.
Gov. Ted Strickland has opposed expanded gambling but did support the addition of Keno to the lottery games offered in Ohio last year.

Ok Buckeyes, time to wake up and think this through. MyOhioNow, Issue 6 failed, from what I hear, for two reasons. One, because many thought a casino should not only be in the one centralized location. Two, because Penn National funded the casino smear campaign. WHY would Penn National spend all of that money to stop Ohio casino gambling? Because Penn National owns Argosy Casino Indiana! Penn wants to keep all the Buckeye $$. THINK ABOUT IT! Penn is here to get OUR $$ Keep Buckeye $$$ in Ohio!!

But anyway i always went to detriot alot to their casino’s. I even voted for it. I don’t mind going out of state to gamble. Yep ohio, what a pathatic state to live in.

lets face it people with lots of extra money want more. They will go to gamble and gladly pay for the jobs involved with the industry. Government is not a sin…Politics are!

They said that the casino would not pay taxes. Any body working in the state of Ohio does pay state and federal income tax.

I think we should have a Casino in Ohio. That would mean employment for people like us and money for the state of Ohio.
Let’s go for it!

I voted for the casino in ohio, If someone doesn’t like gambling, fine. Just don’t go! Why give money and support other states?

I voted for it the last time, even though the proposal was imperfect. Money from outstate casinos financed a great smear campaign to kill the proposal and gullible voters swallowed it 2 to 1 (again). Will voters be smarter the next time - don’t bet on it. Dozens of busses depart our area each day with gamblers heading for the Indiana casinos - this provides needed work for local bus drivers and owners at least but does wonders for the economy of Indiana. Go figure!!
