CLARK COUNTY — The first Saturday of December is going to be a busy one for Santa.
He will be visiting children in New Carlisle in the morning, and then visiting children in Enon in the evening. On his schedule that day: a parade, a costume contest and a Christmas tree lighting.
He will arrive in New Carlisle by airplane at Andy Barnhart Memorial Airport around 9 a.m. From there he will travel by fire engine to the staging area for New Carlisle's annual Holiday Parade.
The Tecumseh Marching Band and local children will join Santa in his parade down Main Street. Parents are encouraged to outfit their children in Christmas-themed costumes like wrapped presents or Christmas characters.
When the parade reaches the New Carlisle Fire Department's firehouse, children will get a chance to meet with Santa and Sparky the Firedog.
Those with the best costumes will be awarded gift cards from Toys 'R Us. In order to win a child must participate in the parade.
Following his appearance in New Carlisle, Santa will then skip off to the Enon Historical Society's log house, where he will take part in the village's annual tree-lighting ceremony.
In Enon it is customary for he and Mrs. Claus to arrive in a different mode of transportation each year. In past years, they have arrived via Edsel, fire engine, Thunderbird convertible and speed boat pulled on a trailer.
The night will begin at 7 p.m. with caroling by Greenon High School students and Enon residents, after which Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive — by a yet to be disclosed form of transportation — just in time for the tree-lighting ceremony.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the Enon Branch of the Clark County Public Library at 6:30 p.m. before the event to create Christmas ornaments.
